Break Through Artists

styrofoamBelgium-based indie-electro pop artist Styrofoam (aka Arne Van Petegem) is set to release his new full-length album Disco Synthesizers & Daily Tranquilizers on October 12. The first single, “Get Smarter,” will be out August 24, along with five remixes of the track and b-side “Kids On Acid,” featuring Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols on drums.

Disco Synthesizers & Daily Tranquilizers (named after a line in Elvis Costello’s classic "This Year's Girl") introduces a different Styrofoam, one with a harder edge and darker sound. Co-produced and mixed by Wally Gagel (Eels, Folk Implosion, Muse) of WAX LTD, he and Arne set out to produce a timeless electronic album inspired by classics like New Order, Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode, and their shared love for early Electro Hiphop and Postpunk. The album’s beats and keys were recorded directly to analogue tape, shunning the usual ProTools trickery of all previous Styrofoam releases. In addition to the Sex Pistol’s Paul Cook on drums for “Kids On Acid,” the album also features guest drums from Devo’s Alan Myers on “Believe Everything” and Jimmy Eat World vocalist Jim Adkins on “Extra Careful.”

The follow-up to Styrofoam’s 2008 release A Thousand Words, Disco Synthesizers & Daily Tranquilizers was the first album to be recorded and mixed at the newly refurbished and reopened TTG/WAX studios in Hollywood, a legendary recording spot back in the 60s that hosted classic album recordings by The Velvet Underground, Neil Young, The Doors, Tim Buckley, Frank Zappa and Jimi Hendrix amongst others.

Styrofoam has also proven to be an integral part of the revitalized Belgian music scene as producer/remixer to a wide variety of artists, most recently he has done notable remixes for Kele’s (Bloc Party) hit single “Tenderoni” (Listen) and Of Montreal’s “An Eluardian Instance” (Listen). In the past, he has worked with The Notwist, Death Cab For Cutie, The Postal Service and Lali Puna.
vsagVasilis Sagonas was born on January 28, 1983 in Larissa, Greece. Music has always been a part of his life, having formed a strong understanding and appreciation for it even as a young child. His two older sisters, also passionate towards music, nurtured his enthusiasm and influenced his tastes from an early age. While growing up, he studied the piano for nearly 6 years, which formalized his knowledge of music theory. In 1998, he purchased his first computer to start composing his own electronic music.

As a professional, Vasilis has held positions at several prominent software firms, including Greece-based FORTHnet SA. His skills with computers, coupled with his intimate knowledge of music, set him apart from many house producers. V-Sag's productions are a beautiful weave of melodies, chords, effects, and percussion. They are each unique, and offer a truly engaging experience.

Self-taught, V-Sag has always followed his heart towards his goal to create genuine, impassioned dance music. Through years of practise, research, and exploration, he has refined his sound engineering and sound mastering techniques.

Now, V-Sag's productions are supported by the best DJs and producers worldwide including John Digweed, Tiesto, Hernan Cattaneo, Deep Dish, Dave Seaman, James Holden, Steve Porter, Lemon8, Markus Schultz, G-Pal, Gabriel and Dresden, Pole Folder, Sultan, Tone Depth, Perry O' Neil to name a few, while being released by some of the most respected and forward-thinking record labels on the scene.

In 2005, V-Sag and DJ Tarkan while doing collaborative productions, became close friends, went on tours together and their friendship resulted in the NO SMOKING RECORDINGS label, which is intended to only release the highest standard of deep, tribal and progressive house music.

2006 finds V-Sag voted at the position of 110 at the DJ Mag between the best 250 DJs worldwide and in 2007 he has already released his second arist album from which two tracks was selected by Village Roadshow Films for the soundtrack of the movie "Alter Ego".

A shy and soft-spoken person, musical production for V-Sag continues to be an outlet, a way to communicate and connect with others. His sound is reminiscent of a time when producers made music for love. His vision is to express his feelings; to make people understand his music and the way he wants to feel when he is on the dancefloor.
talmkleinWithout Her, the new single by Tal M. Klein coming soon from Aniligital Music with remixes by DJ DRM, Cosmic Boogie, The Hardway Bros, Fromage Disco, and Cubase Dan. Catalog# ALG038 Coming out on purple 12" on the 18th of October 2010

Somewhere around 1996 Dave Marino made the tragic mistake of letting me into his recording studio. Since then I've been an auditory menace to the world at large, forcing my records, mp3's, and cd's down everybody throats like it was cod oil and the asian flu was going out of business.

I'm all about drunk funk, that's music which inspires one to both chill and shake their ass at the same time. Finding that perfect funky record, to me, is like winning the chocolate, money, and sex lottery.

I used to record under the moniker "Trancenden" but decided to shed it after people kept thinking I made and spun trance music. Now people just know me as Tal M. Klein, but you can call me Tal.

I'm a vinyl purist, but I'm not a bigot. You can play whatever music you want on whatever media you like, and as long as the music is good, I'm happy. I just like crate digging. My records are produced in San Francisco (I pretty much exclusively use Ableton Live), manufactured in Czech Republic by Pirates Press and distributed exclusively in the UK by Kudos Records which means that to buy my music in my home town of San Francisco you pay import prices. Is that not the epitome of irony?

I've been fortunate enough to work with my friends on many musical projects ranging from country blues to 80's synth pop. On my spare time, I compose background music for TV shows. You've probably heard my music while idly flipping channels on the telly.
mimosaLos Angeles' Mimosa has made a distinct mark on the west coast sound in the past two years and has become one of the top west coast exports.
